Crocketville and the surrounding rural landscapes of Hampton County are defined by a complex network of wetlands and small agricultural settlements. The northern boundary is marked by the winding course of the Salkehatchie River, which separates Hampton from Colleton County at the historic Broxton Bridge crossing. The terrain is characterized by extensive hydrologic features such as Whippy Swamp, Caw Caw Swamp, and the Maulding Millpond, illustrating a landscape where drainage and water management have long dictated the patterns of human habitation and road placement.
