Nambe Pueblo and the surrounding Nambe Archaeological District anchor the southwestern portion of this landscape, where Tewa-language street names like Poechunu Poe and Povipin Poe reflect the deep cultural heritage of the Pojoaque Creek drainage. The terrain rises toward the northeast, following the courses of the Rio Medio and Rio Frijoles as they converge near the settlement of Cundiyo.

Resource extraction and recreation shape the higher elevations, evidenced by the Hubbard Prospect and Gilliland Claims near the Santa Cruz Reservoir. This 2011 survey also documents a concentration of youth outdoor infrastructure in the southeast, including the Camp Frank Rand Boy Scout Camp and Chimayo Boy Scout Camp. Traditional irrigation remains vital to the valley's character, with the Potrero Ditch and Reservoir Ditch branching from the Rio Quemado to serve the historic community of Potrero.
