About this map

The Kettle River carves a deep valley through the northern reaches of Ferry County, serving as the primary corridor for both the Great Northern railroad and early mountain settlements. In this high-altitude landscape dominated by the Colville National Forest, the small outposts of Danville, Curlew, and Malo cluster along the valley floor where the river and rail lines provide essential connectivity. Strategic points across the terrain are marked by high-elevation vantage points, including Vulcan Lookout and Franson Pk Lookout, while cattle and wildlife rely on high-mountain clearings like Lundimo Meadows. To the south, the terrain descends toward Curlew Lake, while the northern border meets the international boundary, a transition zone where the rugged peaks of Mt Elizabeth and Granite Mtn loom over the winding drainages of Toroda Creek and Curlew Creek.
