China Jim Mtn anchors the high ground of the Goose Creek Mountains in this high-desert landscape straddling the Nevada-Utah border. The drainage patterns on this sheet are defined by the Dairy Valley Cr flowing through the Narrows of Dairy Valley and Toms Cabin Cr winding through the eastern basin. Local hydrography is characterized by seasonal springs, including China Jim Spring, Dairy Valley Springs, and State Line Spring, which provided essential water sources in this arid ranching and grazing country. Remote access is limited to a few primitive routes such as Toms Cabin Rd. Large geomorphological features like Kilgore Basin and Monte Basin illustrate the transition between the mountain ranges and the canyon systems typical of the Great Basin region.
