Osceola National Forest encompasses the majority of this landscape, dominated by a complex network of wetlands and seasonal drainages. The small settlement of Greenfield sits at the intersection of several forest roads, including Thomas Camp Rd and Greenfield Tower Rd. The hydrology of the area is defined by the namesake Deep Creek and numerous "bays"—low-lying, swampy depressions such as Railroad Bay, Logging Bay, and Sawgrass Head.
