Umatilla National Forest covers much of this high-elevation terrain in eastern Oregon, where deep drainage systems like Bone Canyon and Deerhorn Cr carve through the landscape. The North Fork John Day River defines the southern boundary of the quadrangle, accompanied by the N Fk John Day River Rd. Higher elevations are marked by prominent features such as Sugarbowl Ridge and Deerhorn Ridge, while more level areas like Buckaroo Flat provide a break in the vertical relief.
