Whitetail Peak and Derr Point anchor this mountainous Bonner County landscape, where the northern drainage feeds the Clark Fork and the southern slopes contribute to the North Fork Coeur d'Alene River. The area is defined by a network of steep ridgelines, notably Delyle Ridge and the Buckskin Saddle, interspersed with narrow gulches and creeks. Human presence is concentrated near the river corridor and along forest routes, including the small settlement of Colby and the CX Ranch near McQuade Gulch.
