The Clark Fork river dominates the northeastern corner of this Idaho landscape, where the settlement of Colby sits along the water's edge just below the Derr Creek drainage. This 1996 revision by the USDA Forest Service highlights the convergence of two major federal land tracts, the Kaniksu National Forest and the Coeur d'Alene National Forest. The boundary between Bonner and Shoshone Counties bisects the terrain, tracing across high elevations such as Derr Point and down toward the southern flow of the Coeur d'Alene River.
