The Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroad cuts across the northwest corner of this West Texas landscape, marking the primary industrial artery through an otherwise arid basin. Surveyed in the early 1970s, the terrain is defined by a network of ephemeral watercourses including Maverick Draw, Virginia Draw, and the eponymous Derrick Draw, which channel seasonal runoff across the Culberson Co Reeves Co line.
