Flaming Gorge Reservoir touches the northeastern corner of this high-desert terrain in Sweetwater County, where the landscape is defined by the erosion-carved features of the Devils Playground and Ashley National Forest. The geography is characterized by an intricate network of drainage systems, including the westward-reaching Buckboard Wash and Anvil Wash, which cut through the arid plateaus. Central to the map is the prominent peak of Black Mtn, rising above the surrounding Squaw Hollow. Transportation is limited to the peripheral McKinnon Rd, reflecting the remote and undeveloped nature of this region during the 2017 survey. Small water sources like Pin Spring appear as rare landmarks in an otherwise dry and deeply contoured environment.
