Lolo National Forest, Bitterroot National Forest, and Clearwater National Forest converge in this high-altitude wilderness along the divide between Montana and Idaho. The landscape is defined by its complex hydrography, with numerous drainages such as S Fork Lolo Cr, Dick Cr, and Brushy Fork carving through the steep terrain. Isolated alpine water bodies including Duffy Lake, Mills Lake, Holloway Lake, and Skookum Lake are reached by limited forest access, such as Elk Meadows Rd. Key topographic landmarks like Lantern Ridge and the Pyramid Buttes rise above the timberline, while Rocky Point marks a distinct elevation peak on the Idaho-Montana border. This 2014 survey documents the rugged intersection of Ravalli, Missoula, and Idaho counties within a largely roadless expanse of the Northern Rockies.
