The vast interior of the Okefenokee Swamp dominates this landscape, characterized by a complex network of marshes, prairies, and forested hammocks. Named prairie regions such as Casters Prairie, Redbird Prairie, and Durdin Prairie illustrate the mosaic of the wetland, while higher ground appears at Floyds Island and Pine Hammock. Along the eastern edge, the topography changes abruptly at Trail Ridge, a prominent geological feature that forms the eastern boundary of the swamp.
