Dow Mountain dominates this portion of Lincoln County along the Nevada-Utah border, overlooking a landscape defined by seasonal water sources and early transportation routes. In the early 1970s, the Union Pacific railroad corridor serves as the primary artery through the eastern edge of the quadrangle, passing through Crestline and rounding the sharp curve at Horseshoe Bend. The survival of ranching and transit in this arid environment is evident through numerous named water points such as Oak Well Spring, Sheep Spring, and Miller Spring.
