The Missouri River serves as the prominent natural boundary along the northern edge of this landscape, marking the divide between Roosevelt Co and Richland Co. The terrain south of the river is defined by a dense network of drainages and coulees that have carved the plateau, most notably Hardscrabble Cr and its eastern fork, E Hardscrabble Cr. These waterways, along with Dugout Cr, create a highly dissected topography that transitions into deeper landforms like Garden Coulee and Goodman Coulee in the southern sections.
