Dungeness Spit extends into the Strait of Juan De Fuca, shielding New Dungeness Bay and the landmark Dungeness L. H. at its tip. This coastal landscape is defined by the outflow of the Dungeness River and a network of agricultural ranches such as McNair Ranch, Iver Olson Ranch, and Busch Ranch that occupy the fertile valleys.

Transport and education infrastructure of the late 1930s is well-preserved here, showing the Milwaukee Road railway cutting through Sequim and Carlsborg. The map captures a high density of rural schoolhouses, including Dungeness Sch, McClay Sch, and the remote Lost Mt Sch. To the east, the shoreline of Washington Harbor and Sequim Bay State Park marks the transition from the pastoral inland to the Olympic Peninsula's marine edges.
