Little Smoky Valley dominates the eastern expanse of this Nye County landscape, where the arid basin floor meets the complex drainage systems of the central Nevada desert. The hydraulic character of the region is defined by ephemeral watercourses such as Willow Creek Wash and the meandering path of Snowball Cr. These features, along with Cottonwood Cr and Willow Cr, indicate the vital role that seasonal water flow plays in shaping the topography and supporting local vegetation. A critical point for early travelers and ranching operations is the Willow Creek Spring, located in the northern reaches of the quadrangle. This 2015 survey provides a precise look at the Public Land Survey System grid, illustrating the township and range divisions that have organized this open range since the nineteenth century.
