The Promontory Mountains dominate the western half of this landscape, characterized by numerous canyons and seasonal water sources. Features like Messix Canyon, Chokecherry Canyon, and Broadmouth Canyon cut through the high ground, while isolated water points such as Sweetwater Spring, Owen Spring, and Wild Flora Spring are scattered across the slopes. The rugged western terrain transitions sharply into the flat, expansive eastern shoreline of the Great Salt Lake.

The northeastern portion of the sheet is defined by the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and Bear River Bay. This area illustrates the specialized management of the shoreline, where the S East Promontory Rd and D W R West Bay provide access to the marshy periphery. Landmarks like Boothe Valley Hill and Black Rocky Point mark the transition from the mountainous interior to the salt flats and open water of the bay.
