About this map

The Nisqually River and its industrial infrastructure dominate this late-twentieth-century landscape, characterized by the hydropower systems at La Grande Dam and Alder Dam. These engineering works transformed the river valley into La Grande Reservoir and the expansive Alder Lake, while maintaining the operational heart of the region at La Grande and Eatonville. The northern portion of the map is defined by the Ohop Valley and the Charles Lathrop Pack Demonstration Forest, an area managed for research and conservation near Hugo Peak.
