Ellenburg Center serves as the primary hub of this northern Clinton County landscape, where the northernmost reaches of the Adirondack Park Preserve meet a series of prominent peaks. To the southwest, the waters of Upper Chateaugay Lake and the Chateaugay Narrows mark the boundary between Clinton and Franklin counties, supporting the small settlement at Merrill. The terrain is defined by its heights, with Panther Hill, Spruce Hill, and Cobble Hill rising above the winding course of Ouleout Creek.
