Vermilion Cliffs dominates the northern landscape of this region, dropping sharply toward the House Rock Valley. The transition from the high Paria Plateau and its Sand Hills down to the drainage of Emmett Wash reveals a dramatic geological staircase typical of northern Arizona. To the east, the terrain is deeply incised by Marble Canyon, where the Colorado River churns through North Canyon Rapids.
