Erdman Ranch and the open plains of the Nebraska Panhandle define this landscape along the border of Sioux County and Scotts Bluff County. The terrain is shaped by an extensive water management system designed for high-plains agriculture, featuring the Interstate Canal and numerous irrigation channels such as Lateral Number 18 and Lateral 21 Main. These man-made waterways cut through the natural drainages of Dry Spottedtail Cr and Spottedtail Cr, illustrating the transition from native prairie to managed ranchland. To the west, the area opens into the Dutch Flats, while the elevation rises toward the prominent landmark of Rattlesnake Hill in the northeast. This 2014 survey documents the enduring layout of rural section-line roads, including Cook Road and County Road A, which support the remote ranching operations of the region.
