Coon Valley and the surrounding high ridges of Vernon County are defined by a complex network of coulees and valleys characteristic of the Driftless Area. The landscape is a patchwork of agricultural plateaus and steep wooded drainages, where routes like Rognstad Ridge Rd and Lovaas Ridge Rd follow the high ground between deep cuts such as Pinkish Coulee and Berge Coulee. The drainage pattern is led by the N Fork Bad Axe River in the south and Coon Cr to the north, with the small community of Esofea situated near the river's path.
