Deschutes National Forest encompasses this high volcanic landscape, where the terrain is defined by a series of prominent peaks and geological depressions. Centered around Firestone Butte, the area showcases the cinder cone topography typical of central Oregon. To the west and south, features such as East Butte, Ground Hog Butte, and Rogers Butte rise above the surrounding forest, while Quartz Mtn anchors the southeastern corner. A notable collection of depressions known as The Potholes lies near the center of the quadrangle. The land is navigated primarily by an extensive network of forest service and off-highway vehicle tracks, including Ohv #40 and Ohv #74, which weave through the townships of t21s r15e and t22s r15e. This 2020 survey provides a modern layout of these recreation routes within the protected federal lands.
