Fish Mountain and its surrounding peaks define a high-elevation landscape at the boundary between the Umpqua National Forest and Rogue River National Forest. The 2017 survey details a network of National Forest Development Roads, such as Nat For Dev Rd 800, providing access to remote landmarks like Rabbit Ears and the Hole in the Ground. This area is characterized by significant topographic relief, with drainage systems including Horse Cr and Foster Creek carving through the terrain. Evidence of seasonal water and alpine meadows is found at Foster Glades and Alkali Meadows. Small alpine water bodies, including Toad Lake, Poole Lake, and Triangle Lake, are scattered throughout the high basins, illustrating the complex hydrology of the Southern Oregon Cascades.
