Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge anchors the southern portion of this landscape, where an oasis of water features such as Harrison Pool, Pintail Pool, and Deadman Spring contrast sharply with the surrounding arid terrain. This area at the edge of the Great Salt Lake Desert illustrates the critical role of isolated water sources in the Great Basin. To the west, the steep contours of the Fish Springs Range rise above Fish Springs Flat, creating a dramatic transition between mountain and basin floor.
