Edgar Springs and the small community of Flat anchor this survey of the Ozark Highlands within the Mark Twain National Forest. The landscape is defined by a dense network of steep drainages and ridge systems, most notably Democrat Ridge and Tie Ridge. The region's history is preserved in several small family burial grounds, including Smith Cemetery, Relfe Cemetery, and Trout Cemetery, which are scattered among the many named hollows like Teasley Hollow and Lawrence Hollow.
