The Bridger Range dominates the eastern half of this Gallatin County landscape, where the high-altitude Flathead Pass provides a crossing point through the mountains. Located within the Gallatin National Forest, the terrain is characterized by steep drainages and canyons, including Felix Canyon and Johnson Canyon, which feed into numerous creeks flowing westward. Evidence of early resource exploration is visible at the Mine Shaft Prospect and other unnamed prospects along the mountain slopes.

Lower elevations are marked by a series of family-named watercourses such as Foster Creek, North Bill Smith Creek, and the Reese family branches. A small Cem and various structures located near the mountain base suggest small-scale ranching or settlement patterns typical of the Montana foothills during the late twentieth century. These features, along with a Pack Trail navigating the difficult terrain, reveal the historical routes used to traverse the divide.
