Fort Rock Valley occupies the center of this Lake County landscape, a broad basin defined by its ancient volcanic geology and rural settlement patterns. The small community of Fort Rock serves as the focal point for the surrounding high desert ranchland, accompanied by the nearby Fort Rock Cem and the distinctive landmark of Ft Rock. The terrain transitions from the level floor of the valley to the significant elevations of the Connley Hills in the southeast corner and the volcanic formations of Spike Butte and Coyote Butte to the southwest.
