Possum Kingdom Lake dominates the northern reaches of this landscape, its complex shoreline defined by a series of dramatic river bends and points including Gaines Bend, Johnson Bend, and Hog Bend. This reservoir environment is characterized by significant recreational and residential infrastructure, notably at Sportsman's World Airport and the narrow passage at Hells Gate. South of the lake, the Brazos River continues its winding course through a series of named hollows and bends, such as Pecan Hollow and the namesake Fortune Bend. The terrain transitions from the water-dominated north to a series of prominent elevations, with Schoolhouse Mtn, Crawford Mtn, and Antelope Mtn rising above the drainages of Ioni Creek and Harris Br. The map reveals a high density of modern road networks and development along the lakefront contrast with the more traditional ranching landscape and named topographic features to the south.
