Compiled just after the Great War, the map documents the extensive ditching projects designed to reclaim land from the Birch Island and Konig areas. Notes on the sheet specifically reference drainage surveys of Ceded Chippewa Lands and the Red Lake Indian Reservation from 1908 and 1913, showing how the "drained area" had changed since earlier mapping efforts.

Small lakeside and riverside settlements like Waskish at the mouth of the Tamarac River, Domaas, and Shotly appear as early hubs of activity.
