Big Dry Cr meanders through this portion of the eastern Montana plains, carving a complex network of drainages across the Garfield Co McCone Co line. The landscape is defined by its deep coulees, many bearing the names of early homesteading families and local landmarks such as Boelk Coulee, Halfdahl Coulee, and Mendenhall Coulee. Prominent geological features including Indian Rocks and Standing Rock rise above the surrounding terrain, while the Cedar Bed Ground Reservoir provides a critical water source in this arid environment. The presence of the Cmr Nwr in the northeast indicates the preservation of the native prairie ecosystem. A solitary path, Van Norman Rd, serves as the primary artery through this remote section of the Big Dry country, connecting the various coulees that fragment the high plains.
