The western half of the map is a network of sharp ridgelines and deep glacial carvings like Dawley Canyon and Jasper Canyon, while the eastern side flattens toward the shores of Franklin Lake and the expansive Alkali Flat.

Evidence of ranching and early settlement is concentrated along the mountain base, notably at the W Gardner Ranch and the Rock House, which served as the Ruby Valley Post Office. High-altitude features like Overland Lake and peaks such as King Peak are accessible only via a network of Pack Trails, illustrating the difficulty of the terrain. Traces of resource extraction appear near the valley floor, where a Mine and various Prospects were recorded at the mouth of Tipton Canyon.
