About this map

The ridge-and-valley landscape of North Manheim and South Manheim is defined here by the crossing of Blue Mountain and the prominent Appalachian Trail. In the mid-1940s, this region of Schuylkill County supported a network of small rural schoolhouses, including the Black Horse Sch, De Binder Sch, and Panther Valley Sch. The Schuylkill River cuts through the northern corner near Schuylkill Haven, while numerous smaller waterways like Plum Creek and Bear Creek drain the surrounding hills.
