Ochoco National Forest and Malhuer National Forest converge in this high-elevation corner of Grant County, where the landscape is defined by its complex hydrology and isolated summits. The drainage network is dense, featuring numerous named water sources such as Frankies Cabin Spring, Thursday Spring, and Bull Creek Spring that feed into the headwaters of Brisbois Cr and Swamp Cr. These water points were essential markers for early stockmen and forest rangers navigating the high country.
