Gatchel and the surrounding Perry County uplands are defined by a complex drainage network that feeds the Middle Fork Anderson River and Deer Cr. In this part of southern Indiana, the landscape is heavily etched by narrow valleys and prominent high ground such as French Ridge, Theis Ridge, and Saint Joe Ridge. Small settlements like Ranger and Terry are connected by a web of rural routes, including the prominent Sulphur Valley Rd and French Ridge Rd.
