USGS Topo · Published 2014

About this map

The Gila River corridor defines the boundary between the expanding suburban developments of the Phoenix metropolitan area and the long-established tribal communities to the south. In the northern half of this survey, residential patterns in Chandler and Sun Lakes show the modern grid of planned communities and landmarks like the Valley of the Sun Cem. This contrast is sharpest at the Maricopa Co Pinal Co line, where the landscape transitions into the traditional settlement patterns of the Gila River Indian Community.
