About this map

Stotonic Village and Lower Santan Village anchor the southern half of this landscape, situated along the path of the Gila River. This area reflects a distinct transition between the dense residential expansion of Chandler and Sun Lakes to the north and the traditional tribal community structures of the Gila River Indian Community. Local history is deeply embedded in sites like the Goodyear-Ocotillo Cem and Valley of the Sun Cem, while newer institutional footprints are visible at the Chandler-Gilbert Community College Sun Lakes Center. The terrain is defined by the prominent rise of Gila Butte and the irrigation infrastructure of the Roosevelt WCD, illustrating the long-standing management of water in this arid region near Hamilton Corner and Santan.
