Girard serves as the focal point of this Eastern Montana landscape, situated in the northeast corner of Richland County during the early 21st century. The region is defined by a network of drainage systems and intermittent watercourses, most notably the winding paths of Lone Tree Creek and the North Fork Lone Tree Creek. The ranching and agricultural character of the area is evidenced by the strategic placement of several water management features, including Gladowski Dam, Erickson Dam, and Ross Dam, which control flow into the Erickson Reservoir.
