Patterson and Grays anchor the upper reaches of this landscape, where the agricultural grid meets the winding bottomlands of the Cache River. The area is characterized by an extensive network of drainage ditches and sloughs, such as Mill Ditch and Locust Slough, reflecting a history of complex water management in the Arkansas Delta. Numerous small family or community burial grounds are scattered throughout the quadrangle, including Easton Cem, Whitehall Cem, and the Barbee Cem near the southern settlement of Bulltown.
