Ketchum serves as the gateway to this portion of the Sawtooth National Forest in the late 1960s, a period marked by the development of outdoor recreation alongside vestiges of earlier mountain industry. The western edge of town gives way to the lower slopes of Bald Mountain, where early ski lifts and trails are visible. The hydrology of the area is particularly distinct, featuring thermal activity at Guyer Hot Springs and Warfield Hot Spring along the course of Warm Springs Creek.
