Grovetown serves as the central hub of this 1950s landscape, positioned along the Georgia railroad line and surrounded by small communities defined by their local churches and family burial grounds. The transition from civilian life to military infrastructure is starkly visible as the northern rural tracts give way to the Fort Gordon Military Reservation south of the city. Numerous small water bodies like Reynolds Pond and Maxwell Lake are scattered throughout the terrain, reflecting the area's natural drainage into Uchee Creek and Spirit Creek. Local history is deeply embedded in the land through labels for the Steiner Cem, Hill Cem, and Mt Pleasant Ch. This survey, later updated with aerial photography in 1977, documents the expanding footprint of the military base, including several installations labeled Chapel and specialized infrastructure like the Signal Lake area.
