Lake Ouachita dominates the southern half of this landscape, its indented shoreline creating complex inlets like Mervin Camp Cove. The terrain is defined by the east-west ridges of the Ouachita Mountains, including Blue Ouachita Mountain and Mill Creek Mountain, which hem in the drainage basins of Big Blakely Creek and its tributaries. The small settlement of Hamilton sits in the northeast, connected to the surrounding forest by a dense network of timber and access roads such as Vanderslice Rd and Savall Rd.
