Palo Duro Canyon dominates the southern portion of this landscape, where the Prairie Dog Town Fork Red River carves its way through the high plains. The terrain is defined by a series of dramatic drainages and plateaus, including named areas like Cactus Park and Mitchell Park. This 2019 survey documents the complex hydrological network of the Panhandle, where numerous tributaries such as Troublesome Cr, Coon Cr, and Dinner Cr feed into the canyon system. On the eastern side of the quadrangle, the Stinkhole Divide sits between Mitchell Cr and the waters of W Fork Rough Cr. The presence of Florenz Springs suggests localized water sources that have historically drawn both wildlife and travelers to this arid environment, while Robins Arroyo and Water Canyon mark the distinct erosional features characteristic of the Armstrong and Briscoe county line.
