Great Northern and Pacific railroad lines cross this section of the Red River Valley, intersecting near the small community of Harold. The landscape is defined by the rigid geometry of the township and range system, which is further emphasized by an extensive network of drainage infrastructure including County Ditch No 105 and County Ditch No 15. This engineered water management was essential for the agricultural development of the flat prairie lands between Kertsonville and Russia townships.
