The South Fork Clearwater River winds through this landscape in north-central Idaho, where the settlement of Harpster is positioned near the junction of several drainage systems. The terrain is defined by prominent ridges and points, including Blacktail Ridge and Green Creek Point, which separate the numerous creeks flowing into the Clearwater. This 2011 survey reveals a network of forest and logging infrastructure, most notably indicated by Potlatch Camp 58 and North Meadow Camp. The presence of the Old Elk City Stage Rd provides a link to the area's historical transportation routes, tracing the path between these steep hills. Deep in the forest, McComas Meadows offers a rare break in the high-elevation topography between Swede Ridge and Monument Hill.
