Stillwater State Forest and the Flathead National Forest meet at the foot of Hash Mountain, where the high-altitude terrain of Peters Ridge gives way to a dense network of small water bodies. The landscape transitions from the steep timberlands of the mountains into a fertile valley floor characterized by diverse land use, including the Fish Hatchery and numerous small lakes such as Kaufmans Lakes and Mc Gilvray Lake.
