Salmon National Forest lands dominate this central Idaho landscape, where the high-elevation peaks of Iron Mtn and King Mtn oversee a network of deep drainage basins. The eastern edge of the area is defined by the Salmon River, which draws the flow from numerous tributary streams and gulches. The terrain is deeply carved by water, with Beaver Gulch and South Gulch creating distinct natural corridors through the forest. Human presence is concentrated along winding routes such as Hat Creek Rd and McKim Creek Rd, which provide access to the backcountry near Big Hat Cr and N Fork McKim Cr. The map illustrates the 2013 boundary between Custer Co and Lemhi Co, following the ridgelines that separate these mountain watersheds.
