Hat Point serves as the focal overlook for this remote portion of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in the mid-1990s. The landscape is defined by the massive elevation drop into the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, where the Snake River marks the border between Oregon and Idaho. High-altitude infrastructure supports forest management and backcountry access, including the Memaloose Landing Strip, Heltack Base, and several Helipads.
