The Plover River and Eau Claire River define the glacial landscape of eastern Marathon County, where wetland basins and small lakes punctuate the timber and farmland. Modern conservation and recreation corridors are prominent, with the Ice Age National Scenic Trl winding through the northern sections and the Mountain-Bay State Trl following an east-west path through the settlements of Hatley and Norrie.
