The south shore of Lake Superior dominates this coastal landscape in Bayfield County, where the settlements of Herbster and Port Wing serve as the primary hubs. The terrain is defined by a dense network of drainages cutting toward the lake, including the Cranberry River and its western branch, W Fork Cranberry River, as well as the Flag River system to the west. These waterways create a series of ridges and valleys that influenced the placement of local roads like Old School Rd and Busche Town Rd.
